At the age of 13, David won a scholarship to New York's Collegiate School, an elite private
boys' school whose students included the likes of John F. Kennedy Jr. David's nicknames at
school included "Duke" and "Doggie." After high school, David went to Princeton where he
earned a Bachelor's (AB) degree for English literature in 1982. His senior thesis was "The
Schizophrenic Critique of Pure Reason in Beckett's Early Novels." For his Master of Arts
degree in English Literature, he went to Yale. David started his acting career at Yale while
working on his dissertation, "Magic and Technology in Contemporary Poetry and Prose," which
still remains unfinished. |

He is colour blind in his right eye. He had an accident while playing basketball in high school.
He uses dye to keep the colour right and to keep the pupil from dilating too much. Duchovny learned
to drive when he was 27. In 1996 he was chosen by People (USA) magazine as one of the 50 most
beautiful people in the world. He tried out for the replacing role (for Val Kilmer) of Batman in
Batman & Robin (1997)
David Duchovny once seemed an unlikely candidate to become an actor. A native New Yorker, Duchovny
attended Yale University, where he received a graduate degree in English literature to prepare for
a career as a teacher. While at Yale, he began commuting to New York to study acting and was soon
appearing in off-Broadway plays. In 1987, in the midst of his doctoral studies, he left Yale to
pursue acting full time. |

Sports: David enjoys basketball that he has shown on several occasions, including playing in MTV's
Rock-n-Jock Charity basketball game. He also played on Princetons basketball team and has displayed
his talent on the "Red Shoe Diaries" and "The X-Files". He also enjoys baseball and again he has
played on MTV's Rock-n-Jock Charity Baseball game. He likes swimming, jogging and yoga.
Literature: He enjoys reading and writing poetry, and he likes the works of playwrite/actor Sam
Shepard and the author Samuel Beckett. |
