ACTOR David Duchovny doesn’t “take any of it personally” when tabloids write tales about his love life.

The X-Files star — who threatened to sue bosses at Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper after they alluded to an alleged affair with a tennis instructor, but dropped the defamation suit after the publication printed an apology — refuses to let gossip make him angry.

“The tabloid world is busy, and omnivorous, so I was not taken aback by that story,” he said.

“I don’t take any of it personally. I am not saying I enjoy it, but these things exist because people buy them, so it is not for me to say they should not print this stuff. It would be nice for them to get the facts right – but it is just gossip, so it’s not of world-shattering importance.

“It may be hurtful for me personally, but mostly what worries me is that my children are exposed to it. Luckily, they don’t read that British newspaper. But the time will come, with the glory of Google, that they’ll find something some day. ‘Dad, what the f**k is this?’ Hopefully, I’ll be able to explain. In the meantime, I’ll get on with enjoying my family, my work, my interests.” [SOURCE]

The actor loves his job, but would like to branch out into writing and directing movies.

He has helmed several episodes of TV series The X Files and Californication, and also directed 2004 movie House of D. He has now decided to try his hand at penning a book, and has been working on one since late last year.

“I have been working on this script this past winter, and I think it is quite dense. I don’t know if it is a movie or not,” he explained. “I hope it is, but I am also going to turn it into a novel, just in case.”

David is full of ideas for film scripts, and hopes some of them will make it onto the big screen. He admits his ideas aren’t for blockbuster movies, but is adamant they could still be successful.

“I have things in mind for writing and directing, but the scripts I write seem to fall into this independent world, which I started veering towards as I was finishing The X Files, about 10 years ago,” he explained to British newspaper The Sunday Times. “And it is a hard world right now, when you want to make the kind of movies I am writing. I think they could be popular, and could do business, but it’s hard to prove that at the script stage. At some point, I think somebody is going to take a chance and give me some money to make one.” [SOURCE]

David Duchovny wants to go back to school.

The ‘Jonses’ actor – who has daughter Madelaine, 11, and seven-year-old son Kyd with wife Tea Leoni – admits he often thinks about completing his doctorate in comparative literature, but has accepted it is unlikely to ever happen.

David – who left Yale University without completing his thesis – said: “My career started, so I couldn’t afford the time to finish it, but I do retain an academic interest in literature.

“Actually, I have an interest in finishing my PhD, but I just know I never will. It’s like if I almost became a surgeon – that doesn’t mean I am going to operate on anybody right now.”

As well as being an avid reader, David, 49, has been working on a script for a movie, but after accepting it will be a struggle to get his work onto the big screen, is now considering turning it into a novel instead.

He added to the Sunday Times newspaper: “I have things in mind for writing and directing, but the scripts I write seem to fall into this independent world which I started veering towards as I was finishing ‘The X Files’, about 10 years ago.

“And it is a hard world right now, when you want to make the kind of movies I am writing. I think they could be popular, and could do business, but it’s hard to prove that at the script stage. At some point, I think somebody is going to take a chance and give me some money to make one.

David Duchovny has said that the TV landscape has changed in recent years.

The Californication actor and former X-Files star told The Sunday Times that he no longer wanted to escape from the format.

Duchovny said: “When I said to you back then that I had no desire to go back to television, I didn’t see how TV was changing.

“Now, you can do a 12-episode series and it doesn’t dominate your life. I actually think that doing a series like this is the most free form of filmed entertainment you can make.

“I just wasn’t smart enough back when we were speaking to see that the TV landscape was changing.”

Of his desire to return to The X-Files despite the commercial failure of its second movie, he added: “It was a $25m picture and couldn’t compete with the summer movies like The Dark Knight.

“It was a sombre mood piece, and that might have been a mistake. I hope we get to do another. Gillian [Anderson] and I would both be interested in seeing where it goes.” [SOURCE]

Keeping up with David Duchovny isn’t exactly like keeping up with the Joneses.

Sure, he’s an iconic TV star and shrewd movie actor, with a glamorous marriage that appears to have weathered a recent rough patch.

But the 49-year-old Duchovny swears that the indulgent Hollywood existence many people assume folks like him enjoy barely registers in his frame of reference.

“It’s certainly portrayed as a consuming, lavish lifestyle,” explains the star of the legendary sci-fi series “The X-Files” and Showtime’s current adult comedy hit “Californication.” “But I never thought of myself as even having a lifestyle; I was so concerned with substance, I would always err on the other side.”

The subject comes up because of Duchovny’s latest movie, “The Joneses,” which opened in theaters Friday. Read more…
